Building a solid spice collection doesn’t mean buying everything. All you need are the basic, adaptable spices used in most recipes. With these, you’ll be able to prepare nearly anything and grow over time.

These are the essentials every kitchen should start with:

1. Salt (kosher or sea salt) – enhances flavor in everything

2. Black pepper – the most used seasoning worldwide

3. Garlic powder – quick flavor boost for almost any dish

4. Onion powder – adds depth without chopping

5. Paprika (regular or smoked) – for color and mild sweetness

6. Red pepper flakes – adds heat when you need it

7. Cumin – warm, earthy flavor (great for tacos, chili, rice
