Our Vegetarian Journey: My Kitchen My Home

From a Scare to a Lifestyle Change

There are so many reasons people choose to become vegetarian — health, compassion, or simply the love of fresh, wholesome food. For my family, the decision came from something deeply personal.

When COVID changed all of our lives, it brought unexpected challenges for my son, Max. After his vaccination, he began experiencing severe allergic reactions that often led us to the emergency room — six or seven times over the past four years. Each episode was frightening, with some even leading to anaphylactic shock.

Through these difficult experiences, I decided to start this blog — My Kitchen My Home — to share our journey and the lessons we’ve learned along the way.

Learning to Adapt: Changing Habits and Healing Through Food

Over time, we discovered that Max’s allergies weren’t limited to food alone. Everyday products — soaps, shower gels, even air fresheners and face masks — started triggering reactions.

That meant we had to rethink not just what we ate, but how we lived.

By switching to a plant-based, allergy-friendly diet, we began to see changes. Cooking from scratch gave us control over every ingredient that entered our kitchen. Meals became safer, simpler, and surprisingly delicious.

This shift wasn’t just about removing meat — it was about rediscovering the healing power of food and family.
